Wood Chipping Services

The services of wood chipping, be it the chipping of wooden pallets or trees, is at the foundation level of any wood waste management exercise. The Company acquired its first wood chipper in 2019. A wood chipper is used for reducing wood (such as wooden pallets) into smaller woodchips. The chipper is mounted on wheels for easier towing behind a truck or van. Power is provided by an internal combustion engine from 3 horsepower (2.2 kW). The wood is inserted into the hopper (the collar serving as a partial safety mechanism to keep human body parts away from the chipping blades) and started into the chipping mechanism.

The chips exit through a chute onto the ground or into a container. Typical output is chips on the order of 2.5 to 5.1 cm across in size. The resulting wood chips have various uses such as being spread as a ground cover or as one of the compost elements. The chipping blades are mounted on the face of the flywheel; and once the wood has been gripped by the rollers, the rollers transport the branch to the chipping blades at a steady rate. These rollers are a safety feature and are generally reversible for situations where a branch gets caught on clothing.

The Company has heavy-duty bags for wood chips as some customers may not have a truck suitable for transporting loose wood chips. Transferring loose wood chips to bags allows customers to transport the chips in their cars without damaging upholstery.
